Thanksgiving is traditionally the heaviest travel weekend all year, with the Sunday after Thanksgiving recognized as the busiest travel day on the roads. According to AAA, 39.5 million Americans will travel by automobile this Thanksgiving weekend. The majority of these drivers will travel greater than 50 miles to their Thanksgiving destination.
We are thankful to our Adopt-A-Highway Sponsors for helping keep highways and interstates free of litter and debris throughout the year. And especially on this busy weekend, we wish you all SAFE TRAVELS and a Happy Thanksgiving!

Subway says it BEST
We recently asked our Adopt-A-Highway sponsors nationwide to provide us with some insight on why they decided to Adopt-A-Highway and how they feel the program is beneficial. We decided that Subway Restaurants corporate headquarters said it best:
Subway Restaurants World HQ is proud to partner with AAHLRSA in Connecticut. Our more than 900 employees at our Milford Campus pride themselves on supporting our communities and working to be “green” in any areas we can. This is an easy and effective way to help keep our roadways and environments clean. With nearly 40,000 restaurants around the world many markets support similar programs in their areas. The team at AAHLRSA makes it easy to “do the right thing.” We are proud to be Team Subway and proud to be on Team Adopt-A-Highway!!”

We could not have said it better ourselves! Thanks Subway for your endorsement, but more importantly for your commitment to keeping our highways safe and litter free!

As they face budget cuts and safety issues, more and more states are looking towards Sponsor-A-Highway programs to keep roads litter-free. An expansion of the popular and successful Volunteer Adopt-A-Highway program, SPONSORSHIP programs have significant BENEFITS.
- SAFETY: Sponsored segments on busy highways and Interstates are cleaned by professional crews that have been trained in the safety aspects of cleaning the roadways. Many highly traveled highway sites are understandably not available to Volunteer programs due to safety concerns.
- CONSISTENTCY: Sponsor-A-Highway segments are cleaned at regular intervals, ranging from weekly to every few months, depending upon location. The number of bags per cleaning is tracked and reported and disposed of appropriately. Litter is also recycled whenever possible.
- MARKETING/BRANDING: Full-color logo signs are used to recognize the Sponsor of a highway segment. Placed in highly visible locations, these signs are a natural marketing vehicle for any size company. All signs are created, installed and maintained by AAHLRSA. In addition, Sponsor signs are considerably larger than Volunteer signs.
- COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: By sponsoring a highway, participants foster community pride and save taxpayer dollars. There has been a rise in “Cause-Related Marketing” over the last few years, as consumers back companies with a conscience.
Cause Compels Consumers to Move – 91% of global consumers are likely to switch brands to one associated with a good cause, given comparable price and quality.

Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. welcomes our newest sponsor, Irvine Property Management, Inc. A company that has been supporting Orange County residential property owners for nearly 40 years is supporting a cleaner Orange County as well.
It started out when some families who lived in Irvine were transferred out of the country. Not wanting to part with their “gold” California real estate, they asked the realtor who sold them their home to “keep an eye it” for them while they were away; thus the birth of Irvine Property Management, Inc. Since that time the company has grown to the point that today IPM manages over 400 homes, condominiums and duplexes all around Orange County with their hub in Irvine. Their Property Management team members are licensed Realtors and have vast experience in all areas of the Property Management field.
We got to sit down with the owner, Gary Sully, and ask him some questions about his motivation for using Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc.. Besides the social benefit of keeping the highways clean and the landscape beautiful, Gary was very candid about the marketing benefit as well. He agrees that the Adopt a Highway Program is truly a cost effective marketing channel to bring positive attention and exposure.
I was very excited about the sign when I first saw it! The sign was professionally made and stands out well for motorists to view. I feel this type of advertising and marketing lends itself well for our company. The millions of autos that pass this location on Interstate 5 at Culver and Jamboree is fantastic! – Gary Sully

Adopt-a-Highway Litter Removal Service of America welcomes our newest sponsor in North Carolina, WasteZero. AAHLRSA is especially excited about WasteZero’s sponsorship because of our shared vision of a cleaner and greener America. WasteZero partners with municipalities to deliver the most effective waste reduction programs in the United States. WasteZero Trash Metering™ programs save money, increase recycling, and reduce waste being sent to landfills – more than 44% annually. That’s an average of 500 pounds per person! Traditional pay-as-you-throw programs only reduce waste by 5% to 20% and bring multiple challenges. Today more than 800 communities have diverted more than 3 million tons of waste and saved $200 million in costs with WasteZero solutions.
Adopting a highway is a great fit with our larger mission of reducing garbage across the US.
Please join WasteZero in reducing waste across America! To learn about the Sponsor-a-Highway program in North Carolina, contact Paige Woods at (800) 792-4452 or by email.
On June 4th, MoDOT launched their redesigned Sponsor-A-Highway sign, with a kick-off event featuring our new sponsor Anheuser-Busch. The new signs feature the “No MOre Trash!” logo and larger sponsor/logo panels. MoDOT is launching the new sign design to encourage more sponsors to sign up for the sponsor program. Which, like in most states, is uniquely different from the volunteer program. Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc.’s professional crews clean and maintain the sponsor’s adopted segment. Both parties benefit, the sponsor and the state agency. The sponsor benefits with affordable advertising, their full color logo, is displayed on signs along highways in the vicinity of their business. And they are also contributing to a cleaner environment. MoDOT (or the state agency) benefits in savings to the state. You can view the redesigned signs with our new sponsor, Anheuser-Busch, in Missouri’s “Sponsor-A-Highway Program” on Interstate 55 near Arsenal.
Anheuser-Busch brings to life our dream to be the best beer company in a better world through our dedication to the communities in which we live and work. We are proud to support programs and organizations that not only enrich the lives of individuals but make a positive and sustainable impact on our environment.
This project is just one of the many ways Anheuser-Busch and its non-profit partners are helping to make America better.
After all, these are our roads, our neighborhoods and this is our Earth.
