SoTel was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Maryland Heights, MO, with centers in Wallingford, CT and Santa Ana, CA.

We chose to participate in Adopt-A-Highway for the local, constant exposure. We are B2B wholesalers and therefore not as known as consumer public-facing companies, and AAHLRSA was a great and economical way to let the public know we are a meaningful employer and part of the community.” Jim Goebel, CEO, SoTel Systems, LLC

Why We Do What We Do

Litter and littering have decreased overall; however, we are a long way from a litter-free America.

According to Keep America Beautiful, over 51 billion pieces of litter are on U.S. roadways annually. The majority of this litter is smaller than four inches, equaling about 6,729 items per mile of roadway. That is a lot of trash!

Tobacco accounts for the largest percentage of trash on U.S. roadways. Other items frequently found on highways include packaging such as fast-food cartons, Styrofoam cups, napkins, plastic utensils, snack-food wrappers, matches, bottles and cans, paper bags, tissues, plastic sheets, film, boxes, clothes, newspapers, magazines, metal foil, anti-freeze and motor oil containers, grease, paint thinner, tires and much more.

Litter is not only ugly, it can cause serious environmental and health problems. For example, cigarette butts contain toxic chemicals that can end up in storm drains and contaminate our precious water systems. Trash and items falling from loose loads can cause accidents and some serious traffic delays.

At Adopt A Highway Litter Removal Service, Inc. our professional crews are safety trained to clean up and recycle all types of litter found on the roadways. From small items to large debris, we take care of it all in a safe and professional manner.

How Long Does Trash Last?

Adopt A Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. is all about keeping roads clean and safe. But, that is not our only goal. We hope to educate and inspire others to think about the impact of trash on our environment. An average American generates 3.5 pounds of trash each day. This graphic illustrates how long it really takes for common trash items to decompose.

Help reduce your trash output by:

  • Using paper and natural products whenever possible, as they decompose at much faster rate than man-made products
  • Using an aluminum water bottle rather than plastic
  • Recycling and reusing old items

It takes the effort of all to keep our environment healthy!

At AAHLRSA, we are trying to do our part by using decomposable bags in all our markets and recycling items removed from the roadways.

We appreciate all our Adopt-A-Highway sponsors and others that share our vision of a clean and green America!

Planting Seeds of Hope

In 2014, AAHLRSA will continue its partnership with The Canopy Project lead by Earth Day Network. The Canopy Project plants trees to help communities sustain themselves and their local economies. Trees reverse the effects of soil erosion, filter the air and help diminish the impact of global climate change. Over the past three years, The Canopy Project has planted more than 1.5 million trees worldwide. In the United States alone, projects to restore urban canopies have been undertaken in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Flint, and Chicago

The Canopy Project is completely supported by sponsors and individual donations. AAHLRSA is proud to be a sponsor for this environmentally-friendly program. Our commitment is that for every new Sponsor-A-Highway sponsor, AAHLRSA will donate a tree to The Canopy Project. In fact, since starting our partnership in 2013, AAHLRSA has helped to plant over 3,850 trees. Help us plant even more trees in 2014!
