Since 1989, Adopt A Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. (AAHLRSA) has cleaned over 1,000,000 miles of U.S. highways & Interstates – but let’s start at the beginning…
In 1989, our founder volunteered to “Adopt A Highway” in Laguna Beach, California to advertise her small business with the name on the side of a busy roadway. The marketing impact of the sign was vital, but as her business grew, time became precious. An idea was formed – pay somebody to clean the adopted highway segment! Shortly after that, AAHLRSA was born.
In the early stages, AAHLRSA partnered with the CalTrans to develop a sponsorship program. Over the past 30 years, the Adopt A Highway sponsorship model has expanded nationwide. We are currently managing programs in 28 markets. Known as Adopt A Highway, Sponsor A Highway or Sponsor A Street, depending upon the territory, we treat each mile as if it were our own front yard. Our dedicated team of professionals manages the daily operations of the litter removal programs, tailoring each program to the unique requirements of the local department of transportation (DOT). AAHLRSA remains headquartered in Southern California and is proud to clean greater than 30,000 miles of highway each year.
The marketing reach and impact of Sponsor A Highway goes far beyond the miles cleaned. Our Sponsor’s logo signs are visible 24/7, making tens of thousands of impressions every day. In fact, in many areas Sponsor A Highway signs are the one way to get a company name and logo on the highway. Sponsors get recognition for being socially conscious, increase brand awareness and the community gets litter free roadways.
In addition, local and state DOTs benefit from the sponsorship program by saving significant funds on highway litter removal. This savings can in turn be used to implement other safety and infrastructure that benefit the local community.
No matter the size of the company, from large corporations to single retail shops, our sponsors are making a difference in their communities.
AAHLRSA truly cannot wait to get out there a clean another mile!
