In 1989, our founder volunteered to “Adopt A Highway” in Laguna Beach, California to advertise her small business with the name on the side of a busy roadway. The marketing impact of the sign was immediate. An idea was formed! Shortly after that, AAHLRSA was born.
In the early stages, Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Service of America, Inc. partnered with the CalTrans to develop a SPONSORSHIP program. Over the past 33 years, the Adopt A Highway sponsorship model has expanded nationwide. We manage programs throughout the United States. Known as Adopt A Highway, Sponsor A Highway or Sponsor A Street, we treat each mile as if it were our own front yard. Our dedicated team of professionals manages the daily operations of the litter removal programs, tailoring each program to the unique requirements of the local department of transportation (DOT). AAHLRSA is proud to have cleaned 44,400 miles of highway and rid the roads of 1.4 million pounds of litter last year.
The marketing reach and impact of Sponsor A Highway goes far beyond the miles cleaned. Our Sponsor’s logo signs are visible all day, every day reaching tens of thousands of commuters. In fact, in many areas Sponsor A Highway signs are the only way to get a company name and logo on the highway. Sponsors get recognition for being socially conscious, increase brand awareness and the community gets litter free roadways.
In addition, local and state DOTs benefit from the sponsorship program with significant savings on highway litter removal expenses. This savings can be used to implement other safety and infrastructure that benefit the local community.
